Our Enrichment Programs are designed to develop skills for both personal growth and community engagement. R.E.A.C.H. West prides itself in giving back to the community.
Thanks to the Special Olympics Athlete Leadership Programs (ALPs), R.E.A.C.H. West is able to offer training and support to its current and former Special Olympics athletes to develop into Special Olympics coaches, R.E.A.C.H. West Board members, Camp coordinators, and After Adult Program coordinators and other Program coordinators.
Health and Nutrition
R.E.A.C.H. West recognizes the need for simplified instruction and adaptive tools to promote sustainable healthy eating habits for the client, their caregiver and family members. Our Health and Nutrition program addresses the benefits of healthy eating through education in nutrition, food labels, menu planning, food selection and preparation. The program provides classroom, hands-on, and on-line education. All education and resource materials will be made specifically adapted for people with developmental disabilities. We rely on cash and in-kind donations, and volunteer support to make this program a success.
Thanks to the partnership with Contra Costa ARC, and generous cash and in-kind donations, we have established some garden plots at the George Miller Center in Richmond, CA, and have begun providing lessons in organic gardening. The Gardening Program provides its participants with both health and therapeutic value.
